"What is the goal in your life?"- the toughest question ever..!!!

Note: If you have a precise goal in life and you are on the right path heading to it, enjoying the journey happily, this article is not for you..:) Keep going..!

Nazma.., What is the goal in your life?

2000:" I will become an artist"
2005:" Fashion and Interior designer"
2007: "I want to become a Doctor.! Neurologist in particular".
2009: "I wish to be a part of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and would like to work on satellite communications".
2013: "After 10 years, I wish to see myself as a knowledgeable project manager taking up the responsibilities of  leading a team and delivering my skills to this software legend"
2014: "I want to be an entrepreneur and establish my own company"

Haha...Diverse but serious answers of mine..! But today in 2015, I am pursuing my masters in Computer Engineering...!!! Things seldom turn out in the way we want them to be. In childhood with no idea of what was meant by a goal, we set goals that were our fantasies. In teenage, the major part in goal setting was played by our parents and situations. After slowly realizing our own interests and capabilities then the true game begins. Couldn't like what you do, couldn't do what you like. Life turns to be series of experiences.

I was almost a nerd all through my academic life worrying about my grades and scores.I was told at various stages of my life that-"If you work hard now, you will be happy in future". I wonder if such future exists..!! Whenever I saw a beautiful house or a big car, I used to say to myself "Study well Nazma, you will get them in future". But as I grew up I realized the distance between dreams and reality.I always wanted to do something exceptional.I wanted to establish a company dedicating myself to my work. But what work? Which company?  No idea..! What is my goal in life?

People say getting into the top ranked colleges should be the ultimate goal for a student.Consider this scenario. In India we have cut throat competition for getting into premier institutes like IIT's or NIT's which have a total of around 18,000 to 20,000 seats. Yearly around 13 lakh students register for these exams and among them consider for instance 10%  i.e 1.3 lakh students must probably had sacrificed all their childhood, schooling and teenage enjoyments, pleasures by stressing their fragile neurons hours and hours in commercial drama centres so called Techno Educational institutes. Even after going through all the rigorous study hours, exams, tensions just one in seven students who prepared seriously could get into these IIT's or NIT's.What about the rest of 80,000 students( Practically this would be in lakhs, remember I just considered 10% initially). They might land on some good institutes but those doesn't require such a Hercules effort. What about their lost childhood and teenage...! What about their sacrifices of heart-full laughs and giggling fun..!! No one cares. The only remark that is endorsed 'you didn't do enough hard work to achieve it'. A famous quote says 'The destination is not as important as the journey..! '  - Great journey by these hapless kids for achieving great goals ..!!!! Right?

Reality-"If you are happy with what you have, you will never improve or grow. If you aren't satisfied with what you have then you will never be happy." Should we be contended or should we be serious spending sleepless nights till we achieve our goals sacrificing all the little little joys that titillate us? Again that doesn't mean that we go on enjoying, hanging out with friends and say to ourselves 'don't worry about future, enjoy everyday as if this is the last day in our lives'. Obviously we should not. There is a fine boundary. But how to recognize it? Happiness is said to be a constant that is not proportional to success. But how to master it?

As I was thinking about all these things of setting goals in life and the purpose of life stuff, one day I unexpectedly came across an audio book of Tony Robbins, renowned motivational speaker. I didn't set my goal as soon as I completed listening to it but I found answers to some of the questions that are haunting me for quite a long time. He says "We misinterpret the sense of goal". The purpose for life should not be something that we achieve after 40 or 50 years but something that we can do everyday. This sentence struck me hard. Goals are something that we achieve everyday?? I wondered. He quoted an example of his own father-in-law a simple man with simple values but had brought huge difference.Even though everyone has their own set of goals, in order to achieve them he affirms that they should be aligned to the Universal Goal- " Making the world a better place to live in".

Those who finds the above discussion credible will certainly understand the sense of goal by listening to this.I made an attempt to write excerpts of this but it has to be Tony, who can say it in the way it has to be told. Here is the answer for the most toughest question " What is the goal of life"..!

Leaked...!! ;)

"Omg..!! 1 hour audio..!! How can I listen to this? I am so busy..!" If this is your reaction after seeing the length of the audio, I can just say if you are really looking for the answer then you will play it..:) (Like me)

My Country & Our World

T he result of waking up very early in a winter morning and standing in a serpentine queue for all most two hours in the biting cold winds was an entry pass to be a part of  Mr. Barack Obama's visit to our college. After signing on the ticket and receiving it, I was overwhelmed with excitement that I am going to see the remarkable President of USA. Immediately I captured the ticket and uploaded it in my Facebook.By seeing my excitement, one of my friends asked me- 'I think you will not be this happy if you get a chance to meet our(Indian) Prime minister..!!' For a moment I was taken aback.I really didn't understand what was her interpretation of my excitement. "I would also be excited to see my country's leader and why on earth did you get this doubt?" I questioned her. She smiled and said your enthusiasm to see USA's president..! "If we are not the local Americans, shouldn't we get excited to see a legendary personality who had rewritten th

Things This Little Book Told Me..!!

O ne day I was curiously looking at all the book titles, row by row at our office library. A large collection of technical tomes always left me diffident. So I went ahead and searched for a book at the general section. With a sky blue jacket, having an image rolled on both sides, with an artistic font of title and a cute cartoon of a bird hanging at the center, a book grabbed my attention. It was written- " Things A Little Bird Told me- confessions of the creative mind."  My connection to the word creative (As I always brag I am !! ) made me to have a glimpse of what the book was all about. Author -  Biz Stone,   Co-founder of Twitter. I never heard about him, appreciated my general knowledge levels and then continued reading the cover page. At the bottom, it was written "A unique gift of perspective to anyone dreaming of taking risks, changing their lives, and changing the world ". Interesting and relative, I thought and borrowed it from our library. Embarked on

Helping Poor is " NOT A CHARITY" but "A RESPONSIBILITY"

Going to a school, watching children playing all around, hearing to their naive explanation of things was something that I always craved for. This intuitive interest in children made me instinctively give my name as a volunteer for a social event where we visit a government school and teach them the importance of cleanliness. As a person who had never been at a government school,I am oblivious to the conditions in which government school students study.I was taken aback by the sight of those little kids walking and playing bare foot.I was struck by noticing the dark classrooms without tube lights, unhygienic washrooms, lack of basic amenities like benches, boards, books.I inquired a few of the kids about their life style and their answers left me crestfallen. At a tender age, they started supporting their family by sharing work at home.Eating fruits is a celebrating activity for them.Their pathetic living conditions and their poor educational standards had moved me a lot that I coul
